Why this Matters

Youtube Kills Speech

Big Tech services have become gatekeepers for all human knowledge. Google gets cloud and AI deals with the US and Israeli governments, and then the general public uses them for Search and Youtube to educate us about these same topics. Not only is there outright censorship and demonetization, but Google even strikes deals with the Pentagon to redirect users clicks for topics they consider to be “extreme”.

Fake Freedom

Fake front-ends like Odysee, Paragraph, and MeWe act like they are some kind of decentralized utopia, when in reality the creators can be completely censored because the end-user doesn’t interact with the blockchain directly. Even worse, Odysee is on Cloudflare, so all user passwords are seen and SSL is broken. And Cloudflare has a history of being hacked by nation states, which would effectively get the passwords of supposed censorship resistant front-ends.

Nostr Doesn't Host Videos

Freedom tech tools such as Nostr have made amazing communities that I love. But there are some limitations, and it should be used in conjunction with other tools. Nostr relays don’t store video, images, or podcasts. So content is often linked to regular websites, using surveillance Cloudflare or US Big Tech services.

Rise to the Challenge

With this context, Simplified Privacy has moved forward with creating a mesh web of server-less creator-hosted social-networks directly on Arweave. This proof of concept Youtube replacement, allows for subscriptions via RSS feeds, comments using Arweave wallets, opt-in payment to comment, black-listing for spam, and a full CDN choice of gateway.

No Locations.

With unprecedented privacy, Arweave allows the user to pick which gateway they wish to view content or post to. While Tor Onions just hide locations, Arweave ends the concepts of locations altogether. And the website creator does not directly interact with you, or know which gateway you used.

Censorship Resistant Substack

While substack creators give control to substack to decide if they can continue to earn, with our system, users can opt-in to pay a small AR fee, to be enabled to post and participate. While other permission-less networks struggle with spam, under our system the original poster (and website operator) gets to blacklist users. When combined with opt-in payment, spam attacks are expensive and ineffective.

The Message

This is not perfect, and there's a lot of work still to be done, but it is a stepping stone towards a parallel society for us.

And while I am just a moral man that can be killed or caged, my ideas will live on.. not just through the blockchain, but also through you.
